Forest Watch conducts basic and applied research on New England forest ecosystems. Research data is collected by teachers & students (gr. K-12), sampled from trees in their study plot.

Who We Are...

Forest Watch at the University of New Hampshire is organized by Dr. Barrett Rock, director, and Martha Carlson, coordinator. The researchers— students and teachers in all six New England States.

Dr. Barrett Rock holds a joint appointment in the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space (EOS) at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and the Natural Resources Department. His research focuses on the impact of air pollutants on forest species, utilizing satellite data to monitor forest conditions. Read More...

Martha Carlson is the Forest Watch coordinator. She assists teachers and students in monitoring white pines. She performs spectral measures and other analyses of white pine samples in the Forest Watch laboratory. She also prepares Forest Watch materials and communicates with teachers and schools. Our staff includes veteran teachers who have volunteered to serve as docents to Forest Watch teachers. Phil Browne, Bob Dyer and Louise James are ready to share with you their experience in Forest Watch. Send us a request for a visit.
